Just a day after ushering his team to a 4-0 win against Drogheda United in the Airtricity Irish League, Derry City FC skipper Ryan McBride has tragically passed away. McBride is a local Derry-boy and a home-town hero to many supporters, who had the fortune of watching the 27-year-old play for their club since 2011. News broke for many just a few hours ago when the Derry City FC fan account issued a gut-wrenching tweet:

Many are reporting that McBride was found dead at his home earlier in the evening, and that the cause of his death is unknown. Close friend and former Derry City teammate James McClean will be given leave from his international duties to attend the funeral of his late friend.

As the news broke, Derry fans have been quick to remember McBride. Support for his family, friends and the club pours over social media, and many fans have visited his home at Bluebell Hill Gardens in Derry.

Everyone here at Offside Football would like to send our condolences to his family, friends and the entire Derry City FC football club and their fans. Its never easy to come to terms with death, but you can rest assured he will be remembered as exactly what he was: a hero.
