Today the Union announced the signing of Jake McGuire, a 22 year old keeper recently graduated from the University of Tulsa. McGuire played four years with the Golden Hurricanes, keeping 17 clean sheets across 67 games and collecting a number of collegiate honors.
McGuire started his career in the now-defunct Chivas USA Academy with time spent in Richie Williams’ U-17 Youth National team residency program in Bradenton, Florida. He eventually traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to play in college. After graduating, he was drafted 30th overall by the Houston Dynamo, but eventually waived during preseason.
McGuire joins starter Andre Blake and local John McCarthy, but will potentially see game time while Blake is on Jamaica National Team duty. With few options in goal for both the senior team as well as Bethlehem Steel FC, Jimmy Curtin and Earnie Stewart will be glad to fill the third keeper spot on their roster. Stewart described the Chino Hills native as a “tall athletic goalkeeper who excelled in College.”
